Abstract
In 2015, the fi nal volume of an ambitious project of P. Dinekov, a member of Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, came out. The project was aimed to reconstruct the text of the famous “Simeon’s Miscellany”, given birth to many medieval Slavic texts that are no longer extant now. Bulgarian scientists took the task of studying the ancient Slavic manuscripts in which, according to their opinion, the parts from the “Simeon’s Miscellany” could be found. The linguists came to the conclusion that the most close copy to Simeon`s anthology was The Izbornik 1073, discovered by Russian scientists K.F. Kalaidovitch and P.M. Stroev in 1817. Written by the order of Svyatoslav Yaroslavovitch, the copy was called Svyatoslav’s Izbornik 1073.
The Izbornik 1073 was one of the most ancient dated Slavic manuscripts. Although it contained many East Slavic phonetic and grammatical features, the text was written on the common literary language of all medieval Slavs. Nevertheless, the above-mentioned facts prevented Russian and Bulgarian linguists to use the rich lexical fund of the Izbornik 1073 to compile Old Church Slavonic dictionaries. The text of the Izbornik 1073 was published in Russia (St. Petersburg, 1880, Moscow, 1983) as well as in Bulgaria (Sofi a, 1991). Vocabulary-Index to Svyatoslav’s Izbornik 1073, entered to the Second volume of the project by P. Dinekov was of high value for linguists. The comparison of the texts of The Simeon`s Miscellany, dated the end of the 9th to the beginning of 11th century, and The Svyatoslav’s Izbornik 1073, especially their phraseological funds, became an irresistible proof of existence of the common literary language of all medieval Slavs. That language found the breeding ground for its further development on the East Slavic territory. In Russian philology, the mentioned language is called the Old Church Slavonic Language and dated the second part of the ninth to the end of the eleventh century.
