Abstract

This is a publication of two Ptolemaic bronze coins from the State Historical and Archaeological Museum-Preserve “Chersonesus Taurica”. Previously, A.M. Gilevich attributed one of them to the coinage of Ptolemy II Philadelphus, and the second, of the “Zeus-Ammon/ Eagle” type, generally to the 3rd–2nd centuries BC. Meanwhile, the fi rst of these is a bronze trihemiobol of Ptolemy III Euergetes, minted at the Paphos mint, Cyprus (Svoronos 841). The second is a hemiobol, possibly from the same series, marked with a lotus blossom (?), but its poor preservation hinders defi nitive attribution. These pieces add to the small list of Ptolemaic coin fi nds in the Northern Black Sea region and are evidence of Chersonesus contacts with Cyprus in the third quarter of the 3rd century BC.
