M.G. Abramzon (Magnitogorsk), A.V. Kulikov (Kerch) – Purses with Panticapaean Triobols, 490s – 470s, BC from Eastern Crimea

Abstract

Two purses containing Panticapaean triobols dated to the 490s–470s BC from the Leninsky district of Crimea are published. One was found in 2016 in a fi eld near the village of Ptashkino and contained 10 late Archaic triobols of the Aeginetan standard, approximately from the 490s (after 494?) to 480 BC. The second purse was discovered in 2015 in the vicinity of the village of Zavetnoye and contained 9 triobols: one late Archaic coin of the Aeginetan standard and eight pieces of the Persian standard featuring an incuse square in the form of a swastika with four plates on the reverse. This purse is dated to ca. 480–470 BC. Both assemblages provide new valuable evidence of currency in the Bosporus during the fi rst third of the 5th century BC. Keywords:
