Abstract

The article deals with the dynamics of the ethno-demographic picture of the Turkic peoples in the Chelyabinsk Region, based on the history of the peoples of the Southern Urals. Statistical documents of the 18th–21st cc. show not only changes in the population, but also record the emergence and disappearance of some ethnic (ethno-social) identities. Processing data from the last two population censuses allows us to compile the most accurate ethnic map of the region. The published materials were prepared in the process of working on the Atlas of the Peoples of the Middle and Southern Urals. Also, a significant problem that arose during the last population census in the region is identified.
