Abstract

The paper presents the results of recent studies of rock art on Lake Bol’shiye Allaki (Kasli District, Chelyabinsk Region). The use of advanced GIS technologies made it possible to create highly accurate orthophotoplans and topographic maps for two petroglyphs – Allakskaya 1 and Allakskaya 2. For the Allakskaya 1 petroglyph, three areas of ancient drawings distribution are identified, which are characterized by previous researchers as separate petroglyphs. Threedimensional models were built for these areas, after which digital filtering of their surfaces was carried out in order to identify all the pictorial motifs, which were then drawn using a graphics editor. The paint color was determined by analog and digital methods, the latter of which turned out to be ineff ective. Paint samples were analyzed using a set of microspectral methods with high accuracy of spatial resolution, supplemented by the technology of determining the composition of fatty acids in the organic phase. These data significantly deepen our understanding of the technology of creating petroglyphs. The approaches and methods used to study the Allaki petroglyphs made it possible to more accurately record the quantity and spatial distribution of ancient images on these monuments and supplement the information about these unique objects of Ural rock art.
