Abstract
The article analyzes local features, diff erences and similarities of Neolithic petroglyphs of the sites around Lake Onega and the White Sea. Over the past 25 years, new groups of petroglyphs have been discovered and documented in detail both on Lake Onega and in the White Sea region, and previously unknown carvings have been added to old clusters. The chronology and dynamics of the development of rock art on the territory of both monuments have been clarifi ed, signifi cantly more points of contact between the authors of rock galleries, obvious lines of cultural contacts and mutual infl uences at a certain stage of development of the two petroglyph traditions of Karelia have been revealed. The author off ers a new point of view on the time of origin, evolution and end of the rock tradition of Karelia, provides specifi c information on the contacts and mutual infl uences between the creators and admirers of petroglyphs - the inhabitants of the territory of the eastern coast of Lake Onega and the lower reaches of the Vyg River.
