Abstract

The article examines the current and character of the hostilities of the Brundisian conflict between the triumvirs Octavian and Mark Antony, as well as the causes for the silence of these events by some ancient authors. What emerges is that an important for Roman history fullfledged civil war took place in southern Italy in late summer – early autumn 40 BC. This war can be named Bellum Brundisinum for the city that became its main center. The author claims that the propaganda of the triumvirs influenced specifi c ancient authors. Antony and Octavian wanted to bury this conflict in oblivion to preserve their extraordinary power since civil strife had become unbearable for Roman citizens by that time.
