Abstract
The author some time ago wrote on pre-Hellenism in the Greek world of the 4th century BC and in this connection set forth his interpretation of Hellenism as such. His observations soon received reaction in the literature, in particular from A.S. Balakhvantsev. In this article, the author answers to his opponent, while developing some propositions of his conception. Some points of divergence notwithstanding, we consider interesting the colleague’s suggestion to defi ne Hellenism (as it was connected with Hellenization) as a phenomenon of only Eastern history. In such a case, the same period conformably to the history of the Greek world should get another name. And here the term “post-Classical” may appear appropriate, which suggested by the author also previously.
