Abstract
The article deals with the reconstruction methodology of the archaeological sites’ location using the archive materials from the Institute of Archaeology, Russian Academy of Sciences. Reports have been submitted to the IA RAS archive since the end of the Second World War, and it was the time when the Soviet archaeology started to develop very actively. At the current stage, data on archaeological sites studied during the fi rst twenty years after the War was included into GIS (Geographic Information System) of Russian archaeological sites. Results of exploration works confi rmed the feasibility of methodology used to reconstruct the location of archaeological heritage sites based on information from the earliest fi eld reports from the IA RAS archive. The positive results of checking the reconstructed location of archaeological sites in fi eld conditions with using advanced equipment provide the basis for using this methodology in the subsequent research of Russian archaeological heritage.
