Abstract

Modern political discourse uses a great variety of visual means, but posters still stay the most effective. However, very often posters are short-lived and do not have the necessary suggestive power.

In this article, the authors study some good examples of successful posters that are used in modern communicative space of Russia and Germany. The authors also reveal and analyze the methods that help to create a successful poster. They indicate the problems infl uence the creating the most effective visual means.

The linguists conclude that a poster success depends on some factors. First of all, it is the right placement of visual and verbal components of the poster on its ground and the poster size. A good poster always has bright colours and easy-to-understand images. The words on the poster should be punny. The most suggestive are posters that play upon the meaning of the words or set phrases or that comment on the pictures in an unusual way. A successful poster deals with a very essential social problem or current political situation. These factors help to create new images or use old ones with the changed semantics.

Modern Germany posters are dedicated to such problems as racialism, nationalism and migrants. In Russian communicative space, posters demonstrate foreign policy problems and political rivalry. Both the countries pay attention to the universal human values.
