Abstract
The present essay focuses on the initial part of the Chronicle of John of Nikiu (late 7th century), which covers the events of the Old Testament and the mythological past of antiquity (ch. I–L, LII–LV). The author concludes, among other things, that in compiling this section, John did not pay particular attention to its substantive refinement, viewing it as a necessary but relatively minor part of his work, intended primarily to serve as an introduction to the description of subsequent events, which he considered more significant.
