Abstract
This article represents the first attempt in Russian historiography to examine various approaches to the dating, authorship, and structure of one of the most important sources of Late Antiquity, the "Origo gentis Romanae", as well as its place within Late Roman pagan literature. By addressing these issues, it becomes possible to approach the "Origo gentis Romanae" as an independent and distinct work, rather than merely as a part of the corpus of texts attributed to Sextus Aurelius Victor, a view largely maintained in Western historiography.
