Abstract
The main objective of this article is to examine the source material on Greek colonies named after their oecists (founders), presented in two recent works by V.P. Yaylenko, for its authenticity and relevance. The author concludes that none of V.P. Yaylenko's examples possess the combination of these qualities and, consequently, do not serve as convincing evidence for the existence of such a practice among the Greeks of the Archaic period.
