JOHN DRYDEN'S СOMEDY «AMPHITRION»: ARTISTIC ORIGINALITY
О.А. Ladnaya
The author analyzes some features of the plot within J. Dryden's play «Amphitrion». Dryden borrows a part of the plot at Moliere, altering it according to his own idea about comedy. The aspiration to make the play more sharp and striking forces Dryden to intensify contrast between characters of «high» and «low» story lines. So, he adds romanticism and sublimity to Jove and Alkmen and makes heroes of the second plot even more rough and vulgar, than they are at Moliere. There is an element of satire on a court society, hypocriticalnorms of Puritan morals in the play; besides there are also farce elements and some rough humour which are close and clear to commoners.

ONTOLOGICAL SITUATION OF A THRESHOLD IN NOVEL «GREAT EXPECTATIONS» BY CH. DICKENS
A.S. Matveeva
Dickens novel «Great Expectations» (1861) is an illustration of a case when the incorrect choice made by a man for his prospects on outward things shows him that his hopes and expectations fail to live up to and the vital bases are false. The instinctive fear to the world prompted the main character, a boy to do his best and go through the meeting with the convict (as an ontologically intense point of a threshold) in the least painless way, «without serious consequences». Namely, he tries to forget about the meeting as soon as possible, but as a re7 sult, at a certain moment of his life it brought him to the wreck of «great expectations».
HOGATH’S AESTHETICS AND DICKENS’ URBAN IMAGE («SKETCHES BY BOZ»)
T.O. Belenkova
Due to its narrative trend W.Hogarth's art is traditionally considered to be a part of literary history. His popularity was enormous in the Victorian era. Ch. Dickens, one of his most eminent admirers, created his own pictures of London under the influence of Hogarth's prints. There is much in common between the painter and the writer in their pictures of London life, which is particularly evident in «Sketches by Boz» compared with Hogarth's «A Harlot's Progress», «Rake's Progress», «The Times of Day». Sharing Hogarth's impression of the life of the capital Dickens used the technique of the painter the result of which is the picturesque, visual effect of his urban scenes. So the art of Hogarth became the important source of Dickens'London.
INNOVATION OF FORM IN О. DЕ BALZAC NOVEL «COUSINE BETH»
I.V. Sergienko
The article presents analysis on creative methods of constructing the plot in novels of «Human comedy». The author thinks it is possible to state the process of О. dе Balzac's innovation within the framework of his novel «Cousine Beth». First of all it manifested itself in widening the novelistic form due to inclusion into a narrative course some drama elements. Besides, a omplicated structure had been introduced into the novel and it bore only a formal resemblance to scenic division into acts, scenes with verbal stage directions and comments. All these facts allow to speak about a new form that is a novel7drama.
VARIANTS OF REALIZATION OF THEATRICALITY CATEGORY IN ENGLISH NOVEL IN 19th–20th CC.
S.G. Lipnjagova
The article by S.G. Lipnjagova deals with variants of realization of the theatricality category in the English novel of 19th720th cc. The analysis of the novels «Mansfield Park» (1814) by J. Austen and «Between the Acts» (1941) by V. Woolf is given as the example. Theatricality, as a category of poetics of a novel, defines the inner organization of a text on a structure level, a plot organization, a character system and a conflict. Home theatre in the novel by J. Austen and amateur performance in the novel by V. Woolf, being a moment of conjunction for real and theatrical worlds, become the forms of the inter7pretation for metaphor «the world7theatre». In this very sense one can dwell upon the theatri7cality of a so called «nontheatrical space within the novel. The dialogue between the theatrical» and «nontheatrical» origins forms different variants of theatricality category in thementioned novels.

G. BOCCACCIO IN THE VICTORIAN POET’S PERCEPTION («THE LOVER’S TALE» AND «THE FALCON» by A. TENNYSON)
N.I. Sokolova
Tennyson became familiar with «Decameron» in his early youth, and at nineteen he wrote «The Lover's Tale» (1870), founded on the fourth novella of the tenth day. But the poet's treat7 ment of Boccaccio’s plot is rather subjective. Contrary to Boccaccio who is always concrete, the action takes place in an uncertain «Land of Love», and we learn nothing about the heroes’social roles, the narrators participate in the events themselves. The main difference concerns the concept of love, which is of the natural source for Boccaccio, but for Tennyson has the di7vine origin; his Julian deifies his lover, which is alien to the Italian writer’s heroes. Tennyson's comedy «The Falcon» (1879), based on the ninth novella of the fifth day of «Decameron», is much closer to Boccaccio’ content. The poet introduces the figures of servants as the main source of comic effect and the feud as the reason for the alienation of his heroes’ families. But the concept of love in the comedy resembles the early poem; besides, Tennyson intensifies his hero's strict observance of the chivalrous code of behavior. Both works inspired by Boccaccio became the expression of the poet's concern on the ethical state of society, of his desire to re7vive moral values and the spirit of chivalry among his contemporaries.

L.I. Iskhakova
In many respects, D. Morier’s novel «Adventures of Hadji7Baba Isfagani in London» goes back to enlightener tradition, in particular, to S. Monteskje’s «Persian letters». Morier usesthe same art device of keeping aloof from one's own culture through perception of a stranger, the Persian, a person from other civilization. However, at Morier functions of the mentioned device are different. Montesquieu uses this device for criticism of his own, revealing imperfections of society at absolute monarchy. On the contrary, Morier displays advantages and superiority of his society and culture in the face of oriental despotism.
A ROLE OF SOCIAL AND PSYCHOLOGICAL FACTORS WITHIN COMMUNICATION PROCESS IN NOVEL «HENRY ESMOND STORY» BY W.M. THACKERAY
O.H. Vaseva

T.B. Zajtseva
The analysis of Chekhov’s «The Boring Story» and «Gusev» brings to light the writer's existential point of view on a phenomenon of death and finds out a set of interchanges betweenChekhov’s position and philosophical reflections of Danish thinker Kirkegor. Chekhov con7siders death as a «boundary situation», capable to open doubtfulness of any knowledge onreality and turn a person into searches of original existence. Apart from the existential7philo7sophical attitude to death, Chekhov’s point of view is based not only upon his personal per7ception of this phenomenon (existential experience), but, first of all, on art experience. Chekhov is interested in both private world of a single person (whose individual existence isalways tragic) and general natural life, its stream makes no difference about death of any indi7vidual human being, it is perceived as a common, non remarkable event.
NONEXISTENCE AND RUSSIAN LITERATURE AT THE BEGINNING OF 20 c. (A. BELYI, M. GORKYI, V. NABOKOV)
V.S. Sevastyanova
The question on non7existence becomes the most significant in the art7philosophical search within Russian literature of first third 20th c. when the center of art systems created by poets and writers appears to be vacuity. However in literary criticism works this specific view on the world does not get proper attention and analysis among scholars. Researchers write about familiar handling of poet7decadents' reality, about poetic nihilism which exhausted its potentialities by the beginning of 19107s, about attempts to justify existence in works by A. Belyi, M. Gorkyi, V. Nabokov. Meanwhile, the real result of art and theoretical searches amid these authors is creation of the «distorted worlds» — antisystems where existence of the God, the world and the «I am» substitute for ««another», i.e. nonexistence.

T.I. Vasiljeva
Cinematography of the fiction text is shown through the special dynamics of a plot reflected in a fast change of pictures — episodes, use of visual influence on the reader, retrospective display and other existential «transitions». However cinematography is also a quite distinguishing feature for many works of new realism. L.I. Borodin is a bright representative of this tendency. L.I. ONTOLOGIC BASES OF ORTHODOX ASCETISM
K.M. Yushkov
During historical development of mankind religion as a philosophical problem always excited scholars. In our opinion, it is necessary to take up the ontologic bases of an orthodox ascetic ideal in order to gain a better understanding of a modern religious reality and comprehension of faith (its total amount) as a contribution to independence and an active vital position of the person. Activity of a pious person is to a great degree directed to the spiritual side of his life, for the rescue of a person’s soul and all his activity is subordinated to ascetic ideals of faith.
