Аннотация

В статье рассматривается образ македонской военной системы времен Филиппа II, созданный в речах Демосфена. Выявлено, что афинский оратор изображал наемников важной частью македонской армии, подчеркивал разницу в интересах царя и основной массы воинов, констатировал отсутствие практики использования гоплитов. Вполне обоснованно отмечалась постоянная готовность македонского войска к ведению боевых действий, активное применение легковооруженной пехоты и кавалерии, развитое осадное дело. Основными чертами Филиппа как военно-политического деятеля Демосфен называет коварство, целеустремленность и самоотверженность, сообщает о положительных последствиях наличия в руках монарха всех рычагов управления армией и государством. Так формировалась картина, в которой сочетались откровенные домыслы и реальные факты, в значительной степени искаженные из-за стремления Демосфена выставить Филиппа опасным, но при этом уязвимым противником. Афинский политик не учитывал ключевых последствий создания в Македонии профессионального войска, изображал вооруженные силы Филиппа как типичное для греческих полисов гражданское ополчение, не заинтересованное в частом проведении военных кампаний, а самого царя – изолированным от общества и окруженным наемниками тираном. Демосфен игнорировал наличие в македонском войске фаланги, чтобы представить его менее опасным в полевых сражениях. Успехи Филиппа оратор объяснял пассивностью и разобщенностью афинского гражданского коллектива, а также деятельностью предателей, что было призвано не только склонить афинян к решительным действиям, но и настроить общественное мнение против политических оппонентов Демосфена. Помимо того, оратор использовал в своих интересах характерные для греческого общественного сознания идеалистические представления о войне-агоне, в соответствии с которыми единственным достойным способом ведения боевых действий считалось открытое сражение гоплитских фаланг. Это позволяло охарактеризовать победы Филиппа как нечестные и сформировать у афинян убежденность в возможности разгрома македонян в войне, проходящей по традиционным для Греции принципам. Негативным последствием формирования данного конструкта стала опасная недооценка реальных военных возможностей Филиппа.
