Аннотация

Античный историограф Геродот первым оставил нам информацию об основании египетского Мемфиса. Из его труда мы, в частности, узнаем, что город был основан как столичный центр со стороны западной поймы Нила в эпоху легендарного царя Мина (егип. Нармер, 3050 г. до н.э.), в период так называемой нулевой династии. Однако насколько эта информация соответствует действительности? Отталкиваясь от дан- ных современных исследований, автор приходит к выводу, что единой столицы в эпоху первых династий на западном побережье не существовало. Самые ранние крупные по- селения здесь появились только в эпоху Древнего царства и соответствовали так называе- мым припирамидным городам. Эти города поочередно являлись столицами государства, а их основное назначение состояло в отправлении заупокойного культа умерших царей. На место единой столицы в исторической перспективе могли претендовать только два центра – Джед-исут (припирамидный город царя Тети, 2345–2333 гг. до н.э.) и Меннефер (при- пирамидный город царя Пепи I, 2332–2283 гг. до н.э.). Вероятнее всего, Мемфис, который описывает Геродот, появился только в конце Среднего царства. Этому способствовало за- воевание Египта гиксосами (1663–1555 гг. до н.э.), которые основали на месте припира- мидного города Пепи I (Меннефер) собственную военную крепость. Впоследствии здесь и возник город-цитадель Мемфис.
