The paper presents the history of research (in the aspect of recording) and the process of accumulation the various kinds of documentation on the rock art of the Moiseikha Mountain, the sites in the Minusinsk Basin, Southern Siberia. First drawings of the Potroshilovskaya rock art site (one of the locations at Moiseikha) were produced in 1850; another location, that of the Lnishchenskaya rock art site, was discovered in 1885 and documented as well in the form of drawings. At the beginning of the 20th century, the petroglyphs of both sites were copied using the so called estampage technique (paper imprints, squeezing) and the very first photos were also taken. Researchers in the last quarter of the 20th – beginning of the 21st centuries used such methods as rubbing on tracing paper and mikalent paper, tracing images via tracing paper and polyethylene, photography. As a result of the full inspection of the entire mountain many more panels have been found in other locations, so the boundaries of the site have expanded significantly. According to the results of investigations in the 21st century at least 80 decorated surfaces in total are now revealed at the Moiseikha, while the main thing is that all of them are now carefully and thoroughly documented using the latest digital technologies, methods and equipment. On the example of this specific site the author traces the formation of the research need for preciseness in conveying rock art images and – in accordance with this – the development of documenting methods: from the first schematic drawings up to the latest technologies of aerial photography and three-dimensional modeling.
