Abstract
The author of the article analyzes the main values in the Series of essays “The Power of the Land” by G.I. Uspenskiy. This is the main G.I. Uspenskiy’s work of 1880-s being of great social signifi cance. A reader perceives Gleb Uspenskiy as remarkable expert in folk customs, traditions, laws of life of the peasant community, her morals and manners, folklore of a Russian village. The reader sees representation of real truth in just series of essays “The Power of the Land”, and just here the truth always presents in the description of people life.
The author observes the key ideas of the writer. She concentrates her attention on the image of the main hero Ivan Bosykh, whose character refl ected the values and ideals of the epoch of Uspenskiy which still retain its actuality till now.
