Abstract

According to the Georgian historical writings, which are the part of the famous medieval chronicles “Kartlis Tskhovreba”, transition of Avasgia in hereditary rule of the Abkhazian Leonids dynasty occurred as a result of the Arabs’ defeat under the leadership of Marwan ibn Muhammad (732-744). Based on the comparison of the Georgian, Arabic and Byzantine monuments of historical literature it is suggested the actual leader of the Arab campaign in Abkhazia, dating and the real consequences of this campaign, as well as the view of the possible causes of data inaccuracies of medieval Georgian annals is expressed.
